She is the daughter of George and Marjorie Moore. Moore was the eldest child of three. When she was eight years old, her family relocated to Los Angeles. Mary was reared as a Catholic, and until the third grade, she attended St. Rose of Lime.
Moore later attended Saint Ambrose School in Los Angeles and then California’s Immaculate Heart High School.

Moore began her career as a performer at the age of seventeen.
Her first role was as Happy Hotpoint in television commercials for Hotpoint Appliances during the 1950s series Ozzie and Harriet.
In ‘Richard Diamond, Private Detective’ in 1957, she portrayed a mysterious telephone receptionist in her first television role.
In 1960, she appeared in two episodes of the NBC series starring William Bendix and Doug McClure. Moore received her major roles in films and television a year later, including ‘Bourbon Street Beat,’ ‘Surfside Six,’ ‘Steve Canyon,’ ‘Hawaiian Eye,’ ‘Thriller,’ and ‘Lock-Up.
