Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is one of the most anticipated DC films, and the first trailer has now been released.

The footage was shown to CinemaCon 2023 attendees during an exclusive presentation.

During the event, director James Wan stated in a video clip that the Aquaman sequel visits “beautiful strange new worlds” where “interesting new characters” are explored.

“It’s an action-adventure story with a really fun bromance between Arthur and Orm,” he said. “Orm was a villain the first time around, but this time Arthur needs him.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently scheduled for release in US theaters on December 25, 2023, and in UK theaters on December 29, 2023.

The release date of the sequel was originally scheduled for December 2022 and then March 17th, 2023, but fans will now have to wait a little longer.

According to Variety, this was due to COVID-19 production delays in the visual effects department.

Director James Wan announced the conclusion of filming for the sequel in January 2022 via social media.

On Instagram, he posted a photo of himself, Momoa, and Patrick Wilson celebrating the occasion with the caption, “Finally, finally, finally picture wrap on the actual last day of Aquaman 2.”

In all likelihood, Black Manta will demand vengeance for Aquaman’s transgressions in the opening minutes of the first film (and beyond). In the first film, we only saw the villain’s origin, so his second appearance is the logical moment to reveal his full potential as Aquaman’s arch-enemy, with more than fifty years of comics history to draw from.

Wilson teased, “I can tell you that [James Wan’s] ideas for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further.”

“Of course, I want to know everything, but I have enough respect for him and the process that I’m fine with remaining out of it until it’s too late. I don’t ask because I don’t want to know and I don’t want him to say, “I can’t tell you that yet.”

“I have a few ideas about where Orm fits in, but I will not discuss them.”

In August 2020, James Wan predicted that the tone of the sequel to Aquaman would be quite different from the original.

The director stated during a DC Fan Dome virtual panel, “I believe the second one is a little bit more serious, a little bit more pertinent to the world we live in today. I believe that is where it desires to go.”

The official Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom plot summary from Warner Bros. read: “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally in order to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible destruction.”
